Water Cycle Tag; An Active Group Game

Spread the love

Get kids thinking about scienceĀ and the water cycle with this fun active group game. Have kids practice cooperation, teamwork and strategy with this fun water cycle tag game.

Supplies

  • Large playing space
  • Cones if preferred

Setup for Water Cycle Tag

Discuss with the children the water cycle.  Explain how water evaporates from our lakes into the clouds and then becomes rain again.

How to Water Cycle Tag

Split the group in two.  Then, split the playing area into two.  Assign each team to one side. Explain that this game is much like the game Rock, paper, scissors.  Each team, as a group, will decide if they would like to be rain, clouds, or lakes.

Have each team line up 5-6 feet away from each other.  (you may choose to mark the distance with cones). On go each team will turn around and motion what they are:

Rain = wiggling fingers in a falling motion
Lakes = holding hands in a low circle , much like you are cradling a baby
Clouds = holding your hand in a circle above your head like a halo

If their motion beats the opponent’s motion they must run after them as they try to make it to a designated line (usually the end of the gym or coned area).  If someone gets tagged they switch teams. The game continues until everyone is on one team.

Clouds Beat rain
Rain Beats Lakes
Lakes Beats Clouds
