This is me..Silhouette activity for kids

How to; This is me Silhouette Activity

Place the overhead projector near the ground and positioned so the light is shining on the wall.  Then, tape a piece of black construction paper or card stock on the wall.

If you are using a flashlight you will want to find a dark room or space. Prop the flashlight up in one place. I recommend taping it to a table or small makeshift tripod so that the light does not move.

Have one child stand in front of the light.  They will need to stand so that the light hits them and projects their shadow onto the black paper.

Have the child turn sideways so you can see their silhouette, they will have to stand very still. It may take some trial and error to get the kid lined up, once in place put a small mark on the ground so the next person has a reference point for where to stand.

When your friend is lined up. Trace their image on the black paper using a white crayon. Then have the kids switch jobs; the drawer now becoming the silhouette

When both friends are have a silhouette cut them out and glue them to the white card stock or construction paper.  On the top have the kids write “This is me……”their name”. Then using crayons, markers or colored pencils have the kids write things that make them unique. If using a computer have the kids type the words they feel best describe themselves and print it off.
