Supplies for Water Balloon Yo-Yo

  • Balloon
  • Large Rubber band
  • Faucet
  • Sharpies (optional)

How To make the Yo-Yo

Give each child a balloon.  Then, have them stretch out the balloon. To do this have them blow up the balloon and then let the air out.  If you are working with young children you many need to do this step for them. After the balloons have been stretch out, stretch the mouth of the balloon around the faucet of a sink.

Turn the water on slowly and fill the balloon until it is about the size of a baseball. This part could be done outside with a hose if weather is nice. Next, remove the balloon and knot the top. This will be the base of your water balloon yo-yo.

Next, cut the large rubber band and tie one end under the knot of the balloon. Tie it tightly so that it will not slip over the balloon knot. Then tie a loop in the other end of the rubber band. Make sure the loop is large enough to get your finger through without it being to tight.

Put out the sharpies and allow kids to decorate their water balloon yo-yos. Then, take your balloon yo-yo outdoors, put the loop over your finger and toss it towards the ground then watch as it flies back up!
